Did you know that we have celebrated Earth Day on 22nd April every year since 1970? I didn’t, that’s for sure.
Earth Day Network’s mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. They work in over 190 countries, with 75,000 partners to achieve this. Take a look at the History of Earth Day here.
This year, for me, is going to be even more poignant than recent years as the affects of Covid-19 are still wreaking havoc on our planet. Some are blaming the way we treat the Earth, animals and each other as a source for the outbreak, others saying it’s a hoax, some blaming entirely bizarre ideas – whatever it is, something went very badly wrong and we now have the responsibility of fixing it.
However, it hasn’t all been doom and gloom. Have you seen the amazing pictures of the reduction in pollution that have been sent from some of the most overly populated cities in the world? That reduction MUST be having a positive affect on other things we cannot yet see.
Anyway, I digress. Earth Day is a brilliant way to share important topics, raise awareness and join in on their challenge (the World’s Largest Citizen Science Effort!). Volunteer, donate, organise an event – just get involved and have a read up on the wonderful work they do. https://www.earthday.org/
